Elite Trucker's Insurance Profile—Built for Professionals

🛡️ General Liability Insurance for Trucking Companies

Protects your business beyond the road.

Covers bodily injury, property damage, and legal claims from third parties—whether you’re at a loading dock, fueling station, warehouse, or client site.

If something goes sideways during a delivery, GL keeps you off the hook and out of court.

🛠 Use it to:

  • Win freight contracts that require proof of insurance
  • Cover incidents during loading, unloading, or dock work
  • Protect against customer or public injury claims

🦺 Workers’ Compensation Insurance

Covers your crew—even if your “crew” is just you.

Required in most states (even for 1099s), this policy pays for medical bills, lost wages, and long-term care if a driver is injured on the job.

💡 Truckers benefit from:

  • Injury coverage for slips, strains, falls, or wrecks
  • Legal compliance across state lines
  • Protection from lawsuits filed by employees or contractors

🚚 Commercial Auto Insurance

Your truck is your business. Insure it like it matters.

Personal auto insurance won’t cover your rig, your route, or your roadside risks. Commercial Auto is built specifically for trucks, trailers, vans, and vocational vehicles.

🔐 Protects against:

  • Collisions and comprehensive damage
  • Theft, vandalism, fire, and storm loss
  • Liability claims from accidents you’re at fault for

🧰 Tools & Equipment Insurance

Covers the gear you haul with you.

From ratchet straps and compressors to on-board toolboxes, mobile repair kits, and tech gear—if it gets stolen, damaged, or lost in transit, this policy has your back.

🔧 Essential for:

  • Hotshot haulers and rig mechanics
  • Refrigerated units and lift gates
  • Any trucker carrying portable, valuable tools

🏗️ Inland Marine Insurance

Not just for the coast—this is freight protection on land.

Inland Marine covers cargo, tools, and specialty gear in transit, storage, or temporary stops between jobs. If it’s stolen or damaged while off your main vehicle, you’re still protected.

🛻 Covers:

  • Crated machinery, palletized goods, and freight
  • Tools stored in trailers, job boxes, or containers
  • Specialized hauling equipment like tarps, dollies, or cranes

🚧 Trailer & Cargo Coverage (Optional Add-On)

Don’t leave your load uncovered.

Trailer interchange, non-owned trailers, and high-value cargo all carry risk. These optional coverages fill the gaps between motor carrier liability and cargo-specific endorsements.

📦 Add for:

  • Dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, and tankers
  • Hazmat, oversized loads, or bonded freight
  • Third-party trailer use under lease agreements

🏗 Builder’s Risk (For Flatbed & Site Haulers)

If you’re hauling construction materials, framing, or modular units, Builder’s Risk can cover what’s in transit or being installed.

It’s optional—but essential when your worksite becomes your risk site.

TRucker's Insurance REsources

🔹 What Insurance Does a Trucker Really Need?

The core trucking policy bundle includes:

✅ Primary Auto Liability — Required by FMCSA; protects against bodily injury or property damage you cause while driving

✅ Physical Damage — Covers your truck (and trailer) if it’s stolen, vandalized, or in an accident

✅ Motor Truck Cargo — Covers damage or theft of the goods you haul

✅ General Liability — Covers injuries or property damage off the road (loading docks, parking lots, etc.)

✅ Non-Trucking Liability (Bobtail Insurance) — Covers your rig when it’s off-dispatch

✅ Trailer Interchange Insurance — Covers non-owned trailers under interchange agreements

✅ Occupational Accident Coverage or Workers’ Compensation — Protects drivers from injury-related costs

These aren’t optional if you want to operate legally, contract with brokers, or protect your truck — your business lifeline.

🔒 Pro Tip: Smart Coverage for Elite Trucking Business Owners — Bundle & Save Without Cutting Protection

🔹 Advanced Coverage Options for Growing Fleets

As your operation scales or diversifies, consider adding:

  • Excess Liability / Umbrella Coverage — Increases your liability limits beyond the FMCSA minimums
  • Contingent Cargo or Broker Liability — Crucial for freight brokers or logistics firms
  • Reefer Breakdown Coverage — Protects temperature-sensitive loads from spoilage
  • Downtime / Rental Reimbursement — Covers lost income or truck rentals after an accident
  • Cyber Liability Coverage — Shields dispatch and billing systems from ransomware and fraud
  • Equipment Breakdown / Towing — Covers unexpected mechanical failures or roadside assistance

🧠 We structure policies around your exact risk profile, not generic templates. Every rig. Every load. Every contract.

💡 Solution: We customize every policy stack based on your scope, structure, and risk — no bloated premiums, no missing coverages.

🔹 Real Scenarios Truckers Face

  • 🚧 A reefer unit fails during a summer haul: Cargo claim hits $85,000. Reefer Breakdown kicks in.
  • 🚨 Driver rear-ends vehicle during snowstorm: Liability pays $420,000 in damages.
  • 🔒 Trailer stolen from truck stop overnight: Physical Damage + Cargo = $140,000 payout.
  • 🧾 Broker requires $1M excess liability for a high-risk load: Umbrella policy satisfies the contract.
  • 🏥 Driver injured loading steel coils: Occ/Acc covers medical bills and lost income.

Without protection, you’re liable. With it, you keep hauling.

💬  Even a single accident, misunderstanding with an employee or client can expose you to six-figure liability without the right policy.

💡 We Know Your Lanes, Brokers, and Barriers — This isn’t theory — it’s road-tested expertise

❌ Without coverage? These numbers hit your balance sheet.

✅With WorkersInsurance.com — you’re shielded.

Priority Concerns & SOLUTIONS

✅ “I just got my authority. What do I need — and how fast can I get it?”

You need Primary Auto Liability, a BMC-91X filing, Motor Truck Cargo, and Physical Damage — at a minimum — to activate your authority and start hauling legally.

💣 Here’s the Risk:

Without FMCSA-required filings and coverage, your DOT number will remain inactive. Each day you’re sidelined is lost income — and missed broker contracts.

🛡️ Solution:

We build starter authority packages that include everything you need to activate your MC number fast — including BMC-91X, MCS-90, and Certificates of Insurance.

You’ll be quote-ready in hours and load-board eligible within 24–48 hours in most cases.

With coverage in place, you work smarter, not just harder.

✅ “My broker requires $1M cargo, reefer breakdown, and a COI by today.”

Many shippers and brokers demand specific coverages before you can haul for them. Meeting those demands fast — without overpaying — is critical.

💣 Here’s the Risk:

You can’t secure the load. Worse, if you fudge the COI or roll without proper endorsements, you could be liable for six figures if something goes wrong — and blacklisted by major brokers.

🛡️ Solution:

We deliver same-day COIs, custom broker-specific endorsements, and all compliance paperwork needed to satisfy freight requirements — no runaround, no call centers.

If a load needs high-limit cargo or reefer breakdown to clear dispatch, we structure the policy that day to keep your wheels moving.

We create lean, efficient policies for micro-teams, family businesses, and large trucking fleets that still give you full-spectrum protection.

✅ “I had one bad accident. Now my premiums are insane.”

Insurance is risk-based. A crash or violation can dramatically spike your rates or push you into the high-risk market.

💣 Here’s the Risk:

You could be forced into non-standard carriers with expensive, restrictive policies — or denied coverage entirely. That means fewer broker options, slower compliance, and income decline.

🛡️ Solution:

We work with high-risk tolerant carriers that still offer reasonable terms — and we help you rebuild your profile with:

  • Dashcam discount programs
  • Telematics-based underwriting
  • Safe driver incentives
  • Clean driver mentoring (for fleets)

Your rates rise when risk rises — we help bring them down, without compromising coverage.

✅ “I park my truck at home. Is it covered?”

Maybe not. Some carriers exclude coverage for theft, vandalism, or collision if your truck is garaged in a non-commercial or unsecured residential location.

💣 Here’s the Risk:

You wake up and your rig is gone — or vandalized. You file a claim and it’s denied due to garaging exclusions. Now you’re on the hook for tens of thousands.

🛡️ Solution:

We identify and fix garaging limitations before they cost you. Our policies include flexible garaging endorsements for home-based rigs, leased yards, or mixed-use parking.

You get full coverage, no location-based surprises, and peace of mind every night.

✅ “If I get hurt, I can’t work. But I’m not an employee — how do I get covered?”

Most independent truckers aren’t eligible for Workers’ Comp, and personal health insurance doesn’t cover injuries on the job. You need Occupational Accident Insurance.

💣 Here’s the Risk:

One slip while strapping a load, or an off-ramp crash, and you’re facing months off the road — with no income. Hospital bills? On you. Rent? On you. The truck note? Still due.

🛡️ Gold Standard Solution:

We offer high-limit Occ/Acc policies with:

  • Medical expense benefits
  • Disability income
  • Accidental death benefits
  • Optional passenger coverage

🧠 It’s low-cost protection with high payout — custom-built for 1099s and non-W2 drivers.

✅ "My insurance feels bloated — I think I’m overpaying.”

Most agencies quote from templates. That leads to duplicate coverages, unnecessary add-ons, and inefficient policy stacking — especially if they don’t understand trucking.

💣 Here’s the Risk:

You’re spending $3,000 more per year than you need to. Worse, you may still have critical gaps (like cargo exclusions or insufficient deductibles).

🛡️ Gold Standard Solution:

We conduct a line-by-line audit of your policies — then restructure with:

  • Lean, layered coverage
  • Broker-compliant limits
  • No bloat or overlap
  • Smart deductibles for premium control

You keep what protects you, drop what doesn’t, and get paid for every dollar you save.

🔒 Pro Tip: Let us review your contracts, unique needs, and recommend the right level.

TRucker's Insurance Coverage - FAQs

Please reach us at coverage@workersinsurance.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Truckers insurance is a specialized form of commercial auto coverage designed for motor carriers, owner-operators, and freight haulers. Unlike standard commercial auto policies, truckers insurance addresses the unique risks of transporting goods, including federal FMCSA requirements, interstate commerce liability, high-value cargo protection, and downtime coverage for income loss. It’s not just about covering your truck—it’s about safeguarding your business against operational, legal, and cargo-related risks that a regular policy won’t touch.

Most trucking businesses are legally required to carry:

  • Primary Liability – Covers bodily injury and property damage to others in accidents you cause (minimums set by FMCSA based on freight type).
  • Cargo Insurance – Protects the goods you haul against theft, damage, or loss.
  • Workers’ Compensation – Required in most states if you have employees.
  • Bobtail or Non-Trucking Liability – For when the truck is driven without a trailer or outside dispatch orders.

Failing to maintain required coverages can lead to loss of operating authority, DOT fines, and expensive out-of-pocket claims.

  • Primary Liability protects you when your truck is under dispatch, hauling a load, or actively engaged in business.
  • Non-Trucking Liability (Bobtail) covers you when the truck is being driven for personal use or outside of dispatch—such as returning home from a drop-off.

Without bobtail coverage, you risk being uninsured if an accident happens while driving your rig “off-duty.”

Motor Truck Cargo Insurance covers the freight you haul against losses from fire, collision, theft, or certain weather events. However, it often excludes:

  • Contraband goods
  • Live animals (unless specifically endorsed)
  • Certain electronics, art, or high-value items
  • Poorly packaged or improperly secured cargo

A well-structured policy can include endorsements to close these gaps, which is critical if you carry specialized or high-value freight.

Physical Damage Coverage is split into:

  • Collision – Repairs or replaces your truck if damaged in an accident.
  • Comprehensive – Covers non-collision risks such as theft, fire, vandalism, or falling objects.

This coverage protects your investment in the truck itself, whether you own it outright or still owe on a loan.

Yes—if you haul trailers you don’t own. Trailer Interchange Coverage protects non-owned trailers in your possession under a written interchange agreement. Without it, you could be personally liable for tens of thousands of dollars if a trailer is damaged or destroyed while you’re hauling it.

If your truck is inoperable due to a covered loss, downtime coverage provides income replacement during repairs. Rental reimbursement pays for a substitute truck so you can keep hauling. Without this, an accident could shut you down for weeks—costing thousands in lost revenue.

Generally, no—unless they are specifically listed and covered under your policy. Many motor carriers require independent contractors to carry their own insurance, but contingent liability or non-owned vehicle liability coverage can protect you if their coverage fails.

The FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) sets strict minimum coverage limits based on:

  • Freight type (hazmat, general, household goods, etc.)
  • Interstate vs. intrastate hauling
  • Vehicle weight and classification

Your policy must be filed with the FMCSA (Form MCS-90) to maintain your active operating authority. Failure to comply can shut down your operations immediately.

Most trucking policies do not automatically cover personal property in the cab or sleeper. For laptops, tools, clothing, or electronics, you’ll need a Personal Effects Endorsement—especially if you live on the road.

Trucking accidents can result in multi-million-dollar lawsuits—especially with catastrophic injuries or hazmat spills. An umbrella policy adds liability protection above your primary limits, ensuring your business and personal assets aren’t wiped out in a single claim.

  • Maintain a clean driving record for all drivers.
  • Invest in safety tech like dashcams, telematics, and anti-theft systems.
  • Enforce strict maintenance schedules to reduce claims.
  • Bundle coverages with one provider.
  • Take advantage of safe driver and loyalty discounts.

Lower premiums come from proving to insurers that your operation is low-risk, disciplined, and safety-focused.
